About this Course

Welcome to the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) programme. The purpose of the programme is to provide practitioners in the water sector, including students with post-secondary qualifications, a comprehensive introduction to the various areas of knowledge and understanding that will be useful as they propose, design, implement and monitor the progress of IWRM processes and later monitor the success of those plans.

Course content

The program material is organized into courses that deal with the essentials of each area of expertise.

• Course 2: Water Transfer
• Course 3: Terrestrial Ecosystems and the Impacts of Land Use Changes
• Course 4: The Aquatic Ecosystem and the Impacts of Land Use Changes
• Course 5: Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Impact Assessment
• Course 6: Water Use
• Course 7: Waste Water
• Course 8: Governance and Community-Based Approaches
• Course 9: Organizational Infrastructure and Management
• Course 10: Applying Integrated Water Resources Manage

Each course is roughly equivalent to an undergraduate course that examines relevant aspects of the knowledge required in the different areas of expertise that enable the production and operation of an IWRM process.The course materials are developed after consultations with experts in IWRM on what should be in a programme designed as a standard core curriculum for participants in an IWRM process.
